Laboratory and clinical evidence indicates that a sample of cells scraped from the surface of mouth lesions can disclose beginning, cryptic and unsuspected mouth cancers. Application in clinical practice on a broad scale may be expected to detect more mouth cancers at an earlier stage of their development, when treatment is relatively simple, when disfiguring defects can be avoided, and survival is most hopeful.
