Special Barium Enema Technique For Colon Polyp Detection

Marshall Eskridge M.D.1

1 Radiologist, Mobile Infirmary, Mobile, Alabama.

Our method of examination employs: (1) well-suspended barium sulfate with a specific gravity of about 1.100; (2) plastic disposable enema bags, allowing the mixture to run in or out freely; and (3) careful study of the colon with a high gain intensifier, multiple spot films, high KVP films and selective 16 mm. cine films.

Repeat studies are necessary for confirmation and are usually done the same morning. Difficult cases may be repeated again on another day. False positives are almost completely eliminated by doing this.
