Errors in Management of Head and Neck Tumors

Richard A. Larson M.D.1, W. Hugh Thomas M.B., B.S., F.R.C.S.1, and Joseph C. Cleveland M.D.2

1 Clinical Fellow, Surgical Oncology, Department of Surgery, Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut.
2 Assistant Professor of Surgery and Cancer Coordinator, Department of Surgery, Yale University School of Medicine.

Five referral cases of head and neck cancer recently seen in this institution have been described, as well as initial errors in management noted. A suggestion is made that the diagnosis and treatment of patients with head and neck cancer be undertaken only by competent physicians and preferably at institutions with fully equipped facilities and properly trained personnel to handle the problem.
