With the continuing emphasis on complete detailed examinations of the structures comprising the oral cavity, it is possible that a greater percentage of primary lesions may be discovered before metastasis has occurred.

The use of megavoltage radiation therapy, and close collaboration between the radiation therapist and the surgeon knowledgeable in the management of head and neck cancer, should improve the end results for survival without disease, and also the quality of survival for those treated with advanced disease.
