Testicular Cancer

Gerald P. Murphy M.D., D.Sc.1

1 Director of Roswell Park Memorial Institute in Buffalo, New York.

Changes have occurred in the urologic surgical management and combined multidisciplinary approach to testis tumors. Based on the advances in adjuvant and primary chemotherapy, additional surgical diagnostic interventions are required. Monitoring can be accomplished by CT scans, skinny needle aspiration, and serial measurement of tumor markers. Better diagnostic accuracy, vigilance for recurrence or persistence of residual disease, and additional therapeutic interventions when indicated have resulted in a more favorable prognosis for the patient.
