Transfusion therapy plays an enormously important role in the modern treatment of the patient with cancer. This support should be planned with allowances for changes and innovations and the flexibility to incorporate them. The blood bank physician must assume an active role in the team caring for the cancer patient. The interaction of oncologist and blood bank physician is vital in offering the best transfusion therapy and making maximal use of precious resources.
