Psychological and social issues arise in the care of all patients with cancer, irrespective of the type of cancer or the type of treatment. It is important to integrate these crucial aspects of care into the total treatment plan. With effective intervention, clinicians can help to recognize troublesome and disturbing problems, reduce their negative impact, and enhance the quality of life for patients and those close to them.
