This review focuses on the pathogenesis, diagnosis, staging, and treatment
of pancreatic cancer. Although much is needed to improve the still dismal
outlook for patients with this disease, significant progress has been made
in its surgical and oncologic management. Furthermore, our deepening
understanding of the molecular genetics of pancreatic cancer lends hope for
the possibility of earlier detection, which would result in substantial
improvements in survival.
