Gross Mammary Cysts

Gross cysts are the most common lesions of the breast at the time immediately preceding and during the menopause. The cysts are usually multiple and frequently bilateral. With limitations, simple aspiration is the treatment of choice. It should be borne in mind that gross cysts in some instances are a part of and not the complete pathological process. Further, multiplicity and bilaterality, although indicative of benign lesions, by no means completely exclude the existence of cancer. Finally, in our efforts to be conservative we should not forget that uncertainty is one of the indications for surgery.
